Kayleen
Horsma / Individual Artist
Kayleen Horsma lives in Menahga, Minnesota with her husband and 6 children.
A short enrollment at Moorhead State University following her 1989 high school graduation confirmed thoughts of wanting to achieve her goals with out a degree. Kayleen began studying watercolor nearly 20 years ago and oils in 2007.
Kayleen describes her preference to paint simple strokes, letting them mature into figures that
are emphasized by the intentions of chiaroscuro. Having studied the
strong contrasts of light
and shadow, she
finds enjoyment in the process of this technique. Initially inspired
by natural
tones of watercolor paintings using light as a source to
capture the mood of its subject, her
work has evolved to studying
rich brush works with deep contrast in hue to highlight the
essence
of its focal point resulting in loose but believable oil paintings .
Kayleen attended Artprize 2010 in Grand Rapids, Michigan with her piece titled 'The Right
Stuff',shortly followed by representation at Ugallery. She feels fortunate to have been chosen
as anattending artist to the AAF Spring Show in New York, NY. The FWAC also chose her
Khorsma work available with Ugallery
