DARREN MAURER - BLOG | WEBSITE| EMAIL
Darren Maurer, a nationally recognized artist/illustrator, grew up in Grand Island, Nebraska where he spent much of his time out of doors in a small town atmosphere. The brisk winter evenings and the drowsy summer afternoons left a strong Midwestern influence on him and show in his work today.
Here in the world of paint and brush, Darren's experiences are portrayed in the images that he creates. His paintings have been published in numerous national and international magazines and are available in limited edition prints as well as commissioned originals. His work consists of a wide variety of subject matter ranging from landscapes to nostalgic Americana themes and can be found in fine art collections across the United States.
"I enjoy using everyday objects as my subject matter. As long as I can remember I have always been very visual. There is a difference between looking and seeing and I would like my paintings to be a reminder of that."
Maurer is a three time winner of the Iowa State Duck Stamp Contest and is the current 2007 Iowa Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year. He is the only artist in the history of the 37 year old contest to capture back to back wins by taking the tops honors in both 2001 and 2002. History was made once again this year by having his stamp design chosen to grace the state stamp and also be named Artist of the Year by Iowa Ducks Unlimited.
Today, Darren lives with his wife and children in Sioux City, Iowa. Here, one can see from the bluffs above the Missouri River, a great panorama of hill and plain. The land stretches on into the distance and changes with the changing of the seasons, but the vision of this special artist remains the same; to bring the essence of home to his work. |
